Privacy policy
Last updated: October 26, 2026
This policy covers the personal tools listed on this site, including utility-backup. They are built and run by one person, Joshua Russo, for their own use. They are not public or commercial services and have no other users. The Shopping List Builder is covered by its own privacy policy.
What these tools access
The tools access only the owner's own accounts and files, after the owner signs in and approves access. Today that means the owner's own Google Drive and Dropbox files. Access is read-only: the tools list and download files and do not modify or delete anything in those accounts.
How the data is used
Files are copied to storage the owner controls (a home server and attached external drives) to keep a reconciled set and several backups. Data is used only for that purpose. It is not sold, used for advertising, used to train machine-learning models, or shared with third parties.
Google user data
The use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used only to provide the backup function described above, is not transferred to anyone else, and is not read by people except as the owner chooses when reviewing their own files.
Where data is stored and for how long
Copies are kept on equipment in the owner's home. An encrypted offsite backup may also be kept with a backup service chosen by the owner, which holds it under its own terms. Data is kept for as long as the owner keeps their backups, and the owner can delete it at any time.
Removing access
You can revoke access from your Google account's third-party access page or your Dropbox connected apps page. Revoking stops the tools from reading your account.
Children
These tools are not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above will be updated. Changes are expected to be minor.
